Bulldogs Halt Tigers

STOCKTON, Calif. - Chelsea Lidy scored 21 points with six rebounds but Gonzaga shot 54 percent for the game for a 99-72 win over the Pacific women's basketball team Thursday in the West Coast Conference opener at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Desire Finnie added 14 points, with six rebounds. Running the point for GeAnna Luaulu-Summers, who missed the game due to illness, Ameela Li handed out five assists with 12 points.

Pacific falls to 6-6 overall, 0-1 in WCC play. Gonzaga improves to 8-5 overall, 1-0 in the WCC.

In Case You Missed It

  • At halftime, the Tigers held the advantage in steals 4-1 and forced seven Bulldog turnovers.
  • After two quarters, the Tigers put up four blocks with Anaya Brooklyn McDavid pacing the Tigers with two. Pacific finished the game with five blocks, just two shy of their season high.
  • The Tigers were perfect from the charity stripe in the first half going 10-10. The squad finished the game going 14-18 as Li was a perfect 8-8 on the night.
  • After Pacific opened the game strong taking a 7-1 lead early and leading 13-10, the Bulldogs unloaded 50 points in 13:02 in the first half to seize control, 60-35 at the break.
  • Lidy tied her career high in rebounds with six in addition to her 21 points in 30 minutes of play as she got her first start of the 2017-18 season.
  • Finnie's 14 points makes it four straight double figure scoring games for the senior, while Li's 12 points marks the eleventh game in a row she has scored over ten points.

  • BLAKESLEE FOR THREE: Jessica Blakeslee connected on three of five from distance to finish with nine points.
  • NO ONE'S UNDERSTUDY: In her seven games as the starting point guard in her career, Li has 33 assists and earned WCC Player of the Week honors on Dec 21, 2015.
  • HOT START: The Tigers opened to a 7-1 lead, but the 'Zags answered back with nine-straight made field goals to take a 20-15 lead after the first quarter.
  • THE GAME WAS WON WHEN: Gonzaga reeled off a stretch of 25 made buckets on 29 shots to close the first half. Gonzaga had missed its first seven field goal attempts, but still finished the half 25-of-36 (69 percent).
  • SHE WHO CONTROLS THE PAINT CONTROLS THE GAME: Gonzaga outscored Pacific 44-26 in the paint, and held a 46-33 rebounding edge.
  • THIRD QUARTER COMEBACK: The Tigers shot 59 percent in the third quarter (10-of-17), and held Gonzaga to 6-of-19 (33 percent) in the frame to outscore the Bulldogs, 23-17. Pacific would pull within 18 with 7:31 to go in the fourth, but could get no closer.
