Tigers Make It Six in a Row with 2-0 Win

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer team earned their sixth-straight victory on Sunday afternoon after topping host Cal State Fullerton 2-0. Julio Cervantes scored in his third-straight game, giving the senior a point in six-straight matches for the Tigers, and Alfredo Alcala netted his first collegiate goal in the win. The Tigers now sit atop the WCC standings at 7-2 while the Titans fall to 4-5.

In the 20th minute, Camden Riley found a streaking Tristan Blackmon going up the right side of the box who then sent a beautiful pass over to Julio Cervantes. The senior then fired the ball past the Titan 'keeper towards the far post for the score and the 1-0 lead. Right before the end of the first half Pacific found themselves on the better end of a three-on-two breakaway with a promising chance to add to their lead. However Collin Bettencourt's pass to Esteban De La Torre was broken up by a Titan defender and the hosts escaped the attack.

The Tigers added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute when Alfredo Alcala dribbled around multiple Titan defenders and fired off a shot that deflected off a Fullerton player into the goal, giving the sophomore his first collegiate goal.

After holding #11 San Diego State scoreless this past Friday, the Pacific defense continued their strong play by limiting the Titans to just nine shots on the day. Goalie Curtis Goldsmith was perfect in logging his fourth shutout, saving the only shot-on-goal he faced.

The Tigers will look to make it seven in a row next Sunday against the Georgia State Panthers before opening up WCC play against Saint Mary's at home on October 9th. Live stats and video will be available.
