Tigers Head into 2016 Season with Exhibition Win

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - An Andres Ochoa goal in the second half lifted the Tigers to a 1-0 victory Saturday night against Sonoma State, giving the Orange and Black a perfect 2-0 record this preseason.

Both teams failed to get much going in the first half as both defenses held down the opposition. In the ninth minute, Sonoma State goalie Mitch North received a yellow card for a hand ball just outside the box, setting up an ideal scoring chance for the Tigers. However the impending free-kick was blocked by the wall of Seawolf defenders, keeping it scoreless.

In the 78th minute, Ochoa sparked the offense by drilling the ball to the back of the net and putting the Tigers on the board. The midfielder dribbled around the Sonoma State defenders towards the center of the box before striking it past the Seawolf goalie and giving Pacific a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would end up out-shooting Sonoma State in this contest 14-6.

Defense was the story again for the Tigers as they have yet to concede a goal in 2016. Keeper Curtis Goldsmith ended the night with two saves in 90 minutes and newcomers Mateo Gomez and Alexander Williams both saw action in relief between the pipes.

The Tigers open up regular-season play August 26th at 7 PM as they welcome Drake to Knoles Field.
