Stockton, Calif. - Pacific swim starts off the 2015-16 season this week, with both the men's and women's teams heading into the bay for road meets. The men will be swimming at Cal on Friday at 1:00 pm, with the women taking on Cal State East Bay and Mills College later Friday at 4:30 pm.
The Tigers return a massive amount of talent from last year's squad that broke five individual records and five relay records. All four of the individual record-breakers return this year, with Yahav Shahaff, Kenna Ramey, Whitney Jorgensen, and Makoa Haneberg all back for the 2015-16 season. On the relay side, 18 of the 20 spots are back.
Pacific made it two years in a row with a swimmer at NCAAs thanks to Ramey, who won the conference and set a school record with her 52.57 time in the 100 Fly. Shahaff narrowly missed making it to the NCAAs as well, setting records in the 100 Breast with a 52.97 and in the 200 Breast with a 1:58.54. Haneberg's record was in the 100 Back with a 48.15 while Jorgensen's 2:00.49 in the 200 IM set a record.
On the relay side of things, Pacific set records in the 200 Medley Relay (1:26.80), 400 Medley Relay (3:12.77), 200 Free Relay (1:18.92), 400 Free Relay (2:55.15), and 800 Free Relay (6:28.52). Miles MacKenzie, Georan Meendering, Curtis Klein, Dylan Toy, Shahaff, Mitchell Ongstad, and Jared Vu all return from those teams, with only two swimmers that took part in any of those relays having graduated.
The Tigers will start their home season at the end of this month with the annual Pacific Invitational beginning on October 21 at 7:00 pm.
