Day One Of Pacific Invitational A Success

Stockton, Calif. -The friendly home confines of the Stockton Golf and Country Club helped the Pacific Tigers put together a very successful first round at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.  The Tigers finished the day in fifth place out of 13 teams at +2 overall.

Geoff Fry matched his best round of the season when he shot a 68 today, good for -3 on the par-71 course.  Fry also had a 68 at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate to start the season.  He put up six birdies today, including three in a four hole span between holes 13 and 16.  Fry's -3 put him in third individually, just a stroke behind the leaders.

Stockton-native Anthony Madrid finished the day with a 71, hitting par exactly.  Madrid had four birdies on the day and finished the back nine at -1 to get to par overall.  He found himself tied for 19th at the day's end.  It was Madrid's best round of the year so far, having previously hit a 73 once.

James Feutz and Casey Scott rounded out Pacific's team, with Feutz shooting a 73 and Scott a 74.  Feutz had three straight birdies after bogeying on 10 and 11, also birdieing on five to end at +2.  Scott had four birdies but was undone by one double-bogey that put him at +3.  Austin Fox shot a 76 on the day as part of Pacific's five-man team.

Mateo Leon, playing as an individual, shot a +2 on the day.  He finished the first nine at +4 but fought back with three birdies on the back nine to get to +2.  Leon sat tied with Feutz in 32nd after round one.

Daniel Peña matched Scott's +3 on the day, finishing in 40th.  He hit par or better in 14 of the 18 holes and birdied on 17.

Jesper Kasanen and Julian Rippert, Pacific's final individuals, shot +5 and +6, respectively, on the day.  Kasanen's best hole came on 15 when he recorded a birdie with just two strokes.  Rippert had two consecutive birdies on six and seven.

Day two of the three-day Pacific Invitational begins tomorrow, with the first groups teeing off at 8:30 am.
