Tigers Topped by The Lions

Box Score
Stockton, Calif. – In an afternoon plagued by rain, the Pacific women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the visiting Loyola Marymount Lions. The loss brings the Tigers to 1-10-1 overall, 1-3 in WCC play and propels the Lions to 9-3-3 on the year, 4-1 in conference action.

"We had them pinned in during the first 35 minutes and we put the shots up, but just couldn't find a way to finish," says head coach Kerri Scroope. "If one of those goes in it changes the game tremendously. Outstanding performance by Melissa [Ma] to step in, Kendall [Bietsch] played excellent on the outside and Siggy [Sigrid Aas] is Siggy and she saw a lot of chances out there today."

In the 11th minute Sigrid Aas lined up to take a free kick about ten yards outside of the box. The freshman looked to give the Tigers the lead but her shot just barely grazed over the crossbar. In the closing minutes of the first half Loyola Marymount saw an opportunity to break the scoreless tie when the ball was crossed into the box. The Lions' Jill Farley went to shoot into an open net but Eliza Hard stepped in and deflected the ball out of play.

After the scoreless first half the Lions broke through to go ahead 1-0 on Maddie Medved's fifth goal of the year. Medved took a shot from the side of the box that goalie Melissa Ma got a finger on but just couldn't quite save it. With 17 minutes left in regulation Bianca Lopez, who was looking for the equalizer, took a promising shot but it was blocked by a Lion defender, keeping the Tigers scoreless. Loyola Marymount would add another score in the 78th minute on a shot over the leaping Ma, giving the Lions an insurance goal and allowing them to walk off victorious.

In her second start this season, Ma logged a season-high six saves against the Lions, which was a difficult task given the slick weather conditions. Aas led all players with five shots on the day and freshman Katelyn Chandler added a shot on goal.

The Tigers hit the road for the final time this season as they take on Portland next Friday before continuing north to face Gonzaga on Sunday. Live stats and video will be available for both these games.
