Stockton, Calif.- The Pacific swim team will compete in two meets this week as 2016 starts with a bang. The men will swim first with a meet at Stanford on Friday at 2:00 pm. Stanford is ranked #12 in the NCAA in men's swimming, the third ranked team the Tigers have taken on this year after Cal and Indiana. The men will be joined by the women's team for a joint meet on Saturday at home against Cal Poly, beginning at 11:00 am.
The last meet action for the Tigers was December 3-5, when the men's team travelled to Indiana to take part in the Hoosierland Invitational against Indiana and Cincinnati. During that event, Mitchell Ongstad, Miles MacKenzie, and Georan Meendering set season-bests in almost all events. Ongstad came away with the fastest SCY 50 Free time at 20.43 and in the SCY 100 Free at 44.52. MacKenzie led the way in the SCY 200 Free at 1:39.49. Meendering was the best for Pacific in the SCY 100 Back, with a time of 50.43.
After the Hoosierland Invitational, Pacific travelled to Hawaii for a team training trip, spending a week working on their craft and coming back ready to go for the second half of the season. The Tigers have six meets this month before heading to the MPSF Championships, which begins on February 17. Pacific will host Cal Poly this Saturday and UCSB on January 22 at 2:00 pm before finishing their home season on January 30 when the women take on UC Davis at 1:30 pm. Pacific has three road meets left: at No. 12 Stanford this Friday, the women at LMU on January 23 at 1:00 pm, and the men at UNLV on January 29.
