Stockton, Calif. - The last regular season meets of the season are on tap for both the men's and women's swim teams this weekend. Pacific's men will travel to UNLV for a meet Friday at 1:00 pm. The men finished their home schedule this last weekend with the dual meet against Santa Barbara. For the women, there will be one more home meet, coming Saturday at 1:30 pm against UC Davis. After this weekend, the swim team will prepare for the MPSF Championships, which begin February 17.
The men were unable to defeat Santa Barbara in overall points at their last meet but did come away with victories in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Pacific's team of Angel Alcala, Yahav Shahaff, Jared Vu, and Miles MacKenzie swam a 1:32.02 in the 200 Medley Relay, defeating Santa Barbara by less than a second. The Tigers also took third, with Mitchell Ongstad, Cameron Franke, Stewart Harrison, and Dylan Toy putting up a 1:33.00.
In the 400 Free Relay, MacKenzie and Toy teamed with Lane Goedhart and Georan Meendering to swim a 3:02.15 and win the event. The women's team also won the 400 Free Relay with a 3:37.50, a time put up by Meredith Lillie, Cai Hong Singh, Haley Preston, and Jana Burkard.
The women swam again the very next day, taking on Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and coming away with the victory. The Tigers won 10 of the first 11 events before beginning to enter their swimmers as exhibitions. The total points favored Pacific 149-105.
Against Loyola Marymount, Jana Burkard and Lauren Atkins took the 1000 Free with times of 10:29.46 and 10:44.14, with Atkins' time setting a new season best for her. Burkard also won the 500 Free.
Cristina Mardones also had a strong day with wins in the 200 Breast and 200 Free as well as the second-best time in the 200 IM. Mardones was joined by Cai Hong Singh, Whitney Jorgensen, Kenna Ramey, Vaiva Gimbutyte, and Haley Preston in winning events, as the Tigers also put up the best times in the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay.
UNLV last swam on January 23 when the men took on Air Force and Harvard. They will also host Wyoming the day after their meet against Pacific. UC Davis' last meet was also against Santa Barbara, who they defeated 154-140. The Aggies meet against Pacific will also be their last of the regular season.
