Tigers And UC Davis Play To Scoreless Draw

Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - For the second straight season, the Pacific women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against the UC Davis Aggies. This time, the venue shifted to Knoles Field on the Pacific campus, where goalkeeper Lena Perry recorded a career-high 10 saves, including a heroic stop of an Aggies penalty kick to keep the visitors off the scoreline. The Tigers' record is now 1-4-1 while Davis falls to 5-2-1.

Pacific had a scoring chance in the 23rd minute as Shayda Ansari sent a screamer towards the top of the goalmouth that was punched out of danger by Aggies goalkeeper Alexis Smith. In the 56th minute, UC Davis looked to have a great chance to take a 1-0 advantage but Andi Damian's shot went off the crossbar and a follow-up header attempt by Andi Damian sailed wide left.

The defining moment of the match happened in the 67th match as the Aggies were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Celina Minissian took the attempt, but Perry lunged to her right, denying the Aggies as the ball went live in the scoring area. A second shot by Crystal Crump went wide, and Pacific breathed a sigh of relief, getting a burst of momentum from Perry's stop.

A 77th minute strike by Sandra Padilla went high and the game went to the first of two sudden-victory overtime periods. Perry made two saves in the first extra period, denying Mandy McKeegan and Damian. In the second overtime, Hannah Terry booted a long attempt that was corralled by Smith and Samia Adam rocketed a 107th minute shot that was wide left.

As time expired, Aggie striker Rachel Smith got off a shot attempt, but Perry was able to deal with the challenge, preserving the clean sheet, the second of her career. Perry also took home a 1-0 shutout win over Loyola Marymount on October 27th, 2013.

For the Tigers, Lily Higashino and Padilla both booted multiple shots. Damian, Crump, Smith and Minissian all had multi-shot games for the visitors.

Head Coach Keith Coleman said of the team's performance on Sunday afternoon, "I was happy after the game. UC Davis is a very athletic and well-coached team. We had a very positive talk with the team. We battled and that's the most important thing. This is the type of fight we need in every game."

Pacific will get to show that fight again on Friday, Sept. 18 at Knoles Field, welcoming in Southern California for a 7:00 pm match. Live video will be provided via TheW.tv and Live stats will be available via PacificTigers.com
