Stockton, Calif. - University of the Pacific incoming freshman Anthony Townes has been named First Team All-State by CalHiSports.com and will join the Tigers for the 2015-16 season. He will join Modesto Christian HS alums Ray Bowles and T.J. Wallace on the Pacific roster.
Townes is finishing his senior year at Modesto Christian High School. Anthony earned CalHiSports.com First Team All-State honors in 2014-15 and was also named the Modesto Bee's Player of the Year. He averaged 19.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
He earned Division 3 All-State Second Team honors from MaxPreps.com in 2013-14, after leading MCHS to a 24-9 overall record. He was named Trans-Valley League Most Valuable Player, as he paced the Crusaders to a perfect 12-0 league mark. He averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds in 2013-14. He scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Crusaders' championship victory over Fairfield High School in the Division 3 Sac-Joaquin Section final. He earned All-Trans Valley League honors as a sophomore (16.1 ppg and 8.2 rpg) and as a freshman (14.4 ppg and 7.1 rpg).
"Anthony is an athletic forward that will bring excellent rebounding and toughness to our program," said Head Coach Ron Verlin. "It's the third time Pacific has been able to bring in a student-athlete from Modesto Christian High School and Anthony has a chance to make a major impact in his first year as a Tiger."
