Tigers Dropped by No. 2 Cal

Berkeley, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers had their second swim meet of the season, falling to the No. 2 California Golden Bears 142-106 overall in their first road meet.  It was the final meet for the Tigers before the Pacific Invitational in Stockton on October 23 and 24, which will also mark the season opener for the women's team.

The Tigers swept the 200 Breast, taking first, second, third, and fourth.  Shunichi Ichimura won the event with a time of 2:15.23, with Lee Ward and Cameron Franke close behind him at 2:17.87 and 2:18.80.  Neil Byers came in fourth, finishing in 2:19.84.

Similarly, the Tigers excelled in the 500 Free and 100 Fly, taking all three top positions in each.  Collin Craig won the free with a time of 4:49.74, followed by Brandon Presswood at 4:52.27 and Drew Yasko at 5:05.24.  In the 100 Fly, Jared Vu came away with the victory with a time of 50.85.  Makoa Haneberg, fresh off being named the MPSF Turbo Male Athlete of the Week, finished second at 51.12.  Stewart Harrison was third, finishing in 52.17.

Haneberg finished fourth in the 100 Back as well with a time of 50.46, just .12 seconds behind third place.  It was one of many near misses for the Tigers, who also had Miles MacKenzie finish fourth in the 50 Free at 21.52, .20 behind third, and fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 46.92.

Curtis Klein took home his first win of the meet in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.18.  He finished four seconds ahead of the Ward, who came in second at 2:01.40.  Nicholas Nord took third at 2:04.52.  Klein also took third in the 200 Back at 1:49.85 and fourth in the 200 Free at 1:42.70.

The final event saw more success for the Tigers, as Pacific's 200 Free Relay team of Mitchell Ongstad, Haneberg, Yahav Shahaff, and MacKenzie finished first with a time of 1:23.76.  Pacific's second team, consisting of Georan Meendering, Lane Goedhart, Harrison, and Vu, finished with a time of 1:25.85.
