Tigers Win Streak Snapped At BYU

Provo, Utah - GeAnna Luaulu-Summers scored a career-high 18 points, but BYU handed the Pacific women's basketball team its first conference loss, 89-72, Thursday.

Luaulu-Summers connected on her first five three-point attempts, but Lexi Eaton (31) and Morgan Bailey (32) powered the Cougars' attack.

Najah Queenland scored a career-high 13 points while Unique Coleman added 11 points. Kendall Kenyon paced Pacific on the glass with eight rebounds and eight points, but saw he streak of double-doubles end at three.

The Tigers fall to 13-4 overall, 5-1 in WCC play. BYU improves to 14-4 on the season, 6-1 in the West Coast Conference.

Luaulu-Summers finished 6-of-8 shooting, all from three-point range.

The Tigers shot 41 percent for the game, 26-of-63, including 9-of-20 (45 percent) from three-point range. BYU shot 55 percent for the game (35-of-63), and hit 7-of-11 (64 percent) from three-point range.

Bailey put BYU on the board with back-to-back buckets inside. Coleman posted a pair of early blocked shots and drove for the Tigers first basket.

Kenyon scored five straight points as Pacific trimmed the deficit to 10-7. Eaton answered with a three-pointer for the Cougars before Emily Simons rolled to the rim for a basket.

BYU extended the lead to 18-11 on a second three-pointer fro Lexi Eaton.

Najah Queenland hit a jumper to pull Pacific within 23-18, but Eaton and Bailey each tallied for a 30-22 lead with 8:52 to go in the first.

BYU led by as many as 37-22 by hitting sevens straight field goals. Madison Parrish and GeAnna Luaulu-Summers hit back-to-back three-pointers for the Tigers.

Luaulu-Summers struck again for a pair of three-pointers to trim the margin to 43-34, but Bailey hit a baseline jumper just before halftime as the Cougars led by 11, 45-34 at the break.

The Cougars shot 59 percent in the first half (19-of-32). Pacific hit 14-of-31 for 45 percent, but BYU owned a 20-12 edge in rebounding and a 8-0 margin in second chance points.

Bailey led all scorers with 21 points in the first half.

BYU opened the second half with the first eight points before Eackles drove to the rim for a bucket.

The Cougars led by 23 before Luaulu-Summers' fifth three-pointer and a pair of free throws from Parrish.

After a Kenyon put-back, Eaton knocked down back-to-back three-pointers. The Tigers trimmed the largest deficit they faced this season to 19 after an and-one from Queenland.

Desire Finnie pulled Pacific within 82-60 on a three-pointer with with 3:55 to play, and the Tigers whittled the deficit won to a respectful 17 before the final buzzer.


The Tigers will look to rebound on Saturday at San Diego as Pacific takes on the Toreros in a 2 p.m. tip-off.
