San Diego, Calif. - The No. 5 Pacific men's water polo team opened the 2014 campaign with a 14-5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at the UCSD Triton Invite. Pacific will face No. 14 Loyola Marymount at 5:20 p.m. Saturday at Triton Pool.
Ben Stevenson led the way with four goals, while Kale Ai and Tim Reeves each added a pair. The Tigers also received goals from Chris Gardhouse, Sean Grady, Krisztian Laczkovics, Matt McKaig, Ikko Saito, and J.T. Sarmento.
Chris Hughes and Brady Moore split time in net, with Hughes posting five saves and Moore seven.
Pacific opened up to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter as Gardhouse opened the scoring and Stevenson followed for a 2-0 lead. After a CMS goal, Stevenson converted a five-meter penalty and Laczkovics rounded out the first quarter scoring.
The Tigers rolled through the second and third quarters, stretched the margin to 6-1 at the half and 10-2 after three periods.
Pacific tacked on four more in the fourth, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps talled three in the final quarter.
The Tigers will switch venues, over to Triton Pool for the afternoon session. On Sunday, the Tigers face Air Force at 10:40 am at Triton Pool in the early game, and have a 3:10 showdown with No. 2 USC at Canyonview pool in the afternoon session.
