Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team scored moments after a game-tying goal and held on for a 2-1 win over Canisius on Friday, Sept. 5 at Knoles Soccer Field. Pacific improved to 2-3-0 on the season, while Canisius dropped to 1-4-0 on the year.

"We are a young team that has been growing this year," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "Three of the four players directly involved in our goals are true freshmen and Alex is a sophomore. It's really great to see the team making strides in the early part of the season."

The Tigers scored early in the first half, as Hannah Terry served the ball into the box and Lily Higashino headed it in off of Canisius goalkeeper Brigid St. Leger's hands at the 8:34 mark. Pacific dominated control of the ball, holding a 9-1 edge in shots along with a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Golden Griffins scored the equalizer after a corner kick into the box by Mallory Illsley was passed off by Maria Nelms to Callie Good, who found the net at the 60:22 mark. The Tigers scored very quickly to take the lead, as Alex Hussar sent a through ball to set up Taylor Ayers for a one-on-one with Canisius goalkeeper Kailee De Franks, with Ayers finishing on the far post.

Pacific out-shot Canisius 22-3, including a 13-2 advantage in the second half. The Golden Griffins had nine saves, while Pacific had one. St. Leger had four in the first half and De Franks had five in the final 45 minutes. Pacific's lone save was by Ebony Ezeji, who was in behind Kane on a shot attempt by Kathleen Lawver in the first half.

This Sunday the Tigers host San Jose State with a 1:00 p.m. start at Knoles Soccer Field.
