Box Score Seattle, Wash. - Looking for some revenge against the Pac-12 with a matchup against Oregon State, the Tigers were unable to outrun the Beavers, falling 3-0, on Friday, September 5. The loss was just the second of the year for the Tigers as they fell to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 at the Redhawk Invitational while the Beavers remained unblemished on the season at 4-0.
Set scores for the match were: 25-21, 25-16, 25-19.
Close early, the Tigers found themselves in a big hole midway through set one as the Beavers used their block to run off seven-straight points. The run turned a 7-5 contest into a 14-5 advantage before junior Annie-Sophie Bauer ended the run with her first kill of the match. Despite the offense coming alive late, the nine-point hole would prove to be too much to overcome as Pacific could climb to within two points late before finally falling to the Beavers.
Starting anew in the second set, the Tigers and the Beavers battled back and forth to begin the frame before a 4-0 run by Oregon State broke the set open. The Beavers relied upon the arm of Mary-Kate Marshall who put down a three of her set-high six kills to create the separation. From there, the Beavers ran away with the set as they rolled off eight-consecutive points to take a 22-12 advantage and with it, a 2-0 set lead.
Continuing to make runs against the Tigers, the Beavers were able to break away early once again in set three, putting together a string of five-straight to turn a 6-5 Pacific lead into a 10-6 Beaver advantage. The cushion would be enough for Oregon State to hold off the Tigers, even pushing their lead to as much as eight before putting the match to bed.
The Tigers were led by sophomore Lexi Elman who was the lone Pacific hitter to reach double figures in kills as the second-year outside posted 13 kills. She added a team-best 10 digs to finish with her second double-double of the year. Bauer ended her night with seven kills and no errors on 21 attacks.
On the other side of the net, Marshall led the way with 14 kills and 10 digs as the Beavers outhit the Tigers .271-to-.137.
Pacific will look to rebound on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they close out the invitational with a match against Lafayette. The match is the second of the final day and is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
