Stockton, Calif - The Pacific women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Santa Clara Saturday afternoon at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.
"Today's match lacked the spirit and energy we needed. We have to give the Broncos credit, as they were the clearly better team today," head coach Charlotte Scatliffe said.
The Broncos took the doubles point as Regina Suarez and Hana Ritterova fell to Katie Le and Chelby Cooke, 8-2. The Broncos' Delphine Rouvillois and Stephanie Skaras topped Francis Dean and Christiana Ferrari, 8-2. The match between Pacific's Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz and Daria Labintseva versus Nicolette Wolny and Elaine Chesoni did not finish.
In singles action, Le downed Ritterova in the first position, 6-2, 6-3. In third singles, Cooke topped Gergana Boncheva, 6-3, 6-1. Stephanie Skaras posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ferrari in fifth singles, while matches between Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz and Rouvillois (second position), Dean and Daniella Silva (fourth position), and Suarez and Wolny (sixth) did not finish.
The Tigers fall to 8-14 on the season, 1-8 in WCC action. Santa Clara improves to 10-9, 5-4 in WCC play.
The Tigers head to the WCC Championships on April 23-26, at San Diego.
