San Francisco - The Pacific women's tennis team fell 6-1 to San Francisco Friday afternoon at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. Christiana Ferrari posted the point with a singles' victory for the Tigers.
"We competed hard today in both singles and doubles, but the Dons took advantage of the big points, leaving us playing from behind," head coach Charlotte Scatliffe said.
Ferrari was a 4-6, 6-1 (3) winner over Brooke Irish in fifth singles. USF's Andrea Ka topped Hana Ritterova (6-3, 6-3) in the first position, while Sofia Holmberg won by the same score in third singles over Pacific's Gergana Boncheva. Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell to Thyra Taune in second singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Marina Nikolic defeated Francis Dean in fourth, 6-4, 6-2. Daria Labintseva was downed by USF's Genevieve McCloskey, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, the tandem of Dean and Ferrari posted an 8-5 Pacific win, but Ka and Nikolic turned in a 8-4 win over Saenz de Buruaga and Ritterova. Irish and Milica Hadzi-Tanovic edged out Regina Suarez and Labintseva, 8-6, to give the Dons the doubles point.
Pacific falls to 8-13 on the year, while USF improves to 15-7. The Tigers face Santa Clara on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hal Nelson.
