Las Vegas, Nev. - For the second day in a row, sophomore Margaux Verger Gourson put her name on the top of the standings at the UNLV Invitational as she won the 200 Free on Sunday, Dec. 14. The sophomore previous set a school record in the 500 Free on day one of the event and made it two-for-two in her events at the meet.
Continuing her impressive showing in Sin City, Verger Gourson dominated the field in the 200 Free as she posted a time of 1:48.46 for her second-straight victory. The sophomore narrowly missed setting her second-consecutive school record as she was just short of the 1:47.86 mark set by all-american Shannon Catalano in 2001. Her mark paced the field of 24 swimming in the finals of the event in the evening run, beating out her Tiger teammate by just over :02 seconds as Jana Burkard was swimming unattached.
Outside of Verger Gourson, junior Haley Preston just missed giving Pacific its third win of the meet as the third-year backstroker finished the 100 Back with a time of 56.29. Her mark was just short of UNLV's Lena Gavrilova who touched in at 54.35.
For the men, the Tigers' best finish came in the 400 IM as freshman Kevin McLaughlin and sophomore Nathan Rhea placed third and fourth, respectively. McLaughlin posted Pacific's top time in the event at 4:11.40 while Rhea came in at 4:16.71. For McLaughlin, his showing in the desert marked the Tigers' best time for the season, to date.
Pacific and the rest of the field will finish off the UNLV Invite on Monday, Dec. 15 when the meet hosts 12 more final events. The final events of the weekend meet will feature: 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 400 Free Relay.
