Women's Hoops Drops Road Contest At Davis

Davis, Calif. -  Hailie Eackles scored a career-high 24 points, but UC Davis shot 9-of-16 from three-point range for a 60-53 win over the Pacific women's basketball team Saturday at The Pavilion.

The Tigers attempted 21 more field goals than the Aggies, and erased an eight-point deficit to tie the game at 51-51 with 2:35 to go, but Kelsey Harris' three-pointer with 2:19 left gave the Aggies the lead for good. The Tigers had the ball with a chance to tie with nine seconds to play, but after a three-point attempt rimmed out, the Aggies hit 4-of-4 from the free throw line to seal the win.

Kendall Kenyon added nine points and nine rebounds, while Erin Butler and Madison Parrish each scored six points on a pair of three-pointers. Butler added eight rebounds, while Parrish added five boards and six assists. Kristina Johnson chipped in a four points and three assists against no turnovers.

UC Davis (3-2) attempted 22 free throw attempts to Pacific's 10. The Aggies shot 45 percent for the game (18-of-40) while Pacific shot 33 percent (20-of-61). The Tigers forced 18 turnovers but turned them into just 12 points. Pacific also tallied 17 offensive rebounds, and held an eight to three advantage in second-chance points. Sydnee Fipps led the Aggies with 21 points while Harris finished with 15.

Butler opened the scoring with a three-pointer. Fipps answered with a pair of three-pointers before Kristina Johnson tied the game at 6-6. Parrish threaded the needle underneath to Kenyon for an inside bucket for the lead.

Eackles knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer as the Tigers led 13-11 with 11:43 to go in the first. UC Davis posted a pair of inside buckets to take a 17-15 lead. Kristina Johnson fed Kenyon underneath but the Aggies maintained a 23-20 lead on a three by Dani Nafekh.

After a pair of free throws, Eackles hit a three to cut the Davis lead to 27-25, but Kelsey Harris converted a three on the other end for a five-point Aggies lead.  Another Eackles three closed the half as the Tigers pulled within 30-28 at the break.

Pacific forced 11 UC Davis turnovers in the first half, but the Aggies shot 55 percent from three-point range (6-of-11). The Tigers struggled from distance, hitting 4-of-14 (.286). UC Davis connected on 10-of-20 from the field to Pacific's 11-of-31 (35 percent

Eackles led all scorers at the break with 16 points, while Fipps paced Davis with 15.  Nine of Pacific's 17 rebounds in the first half came on the offensive glass.

Butler struck for a three-pointer, but Harris answered for the Aggies. Celia Marfone connected as the Aggies stretched their lead to eight.

Parrish drained a triple and Desire Finnie knocked down a runner to bring Pacific within four at 42-38. After an inside tally by the Aggies, Parrish struck again from deep and Eackles brought Pacific within one, 45-44, with a three from the corner at the 6:57 mark.

Kenyon scored inside for a 47-46 lead, but UC Davis answered on the other end. Eackles knotted the scored at 49-49 with a three-pointer, and after a pair of offensive rebounds by Butler, Kenyon tied the game with a lay-up at 51-51.

Harris hit her fourth three-pointer for the Aggies, and after Eackles hit two free throws, Fipps beat the shot clock with a floater for a 56-53 Davis lead with 1:39 to play.

Pacific came up empty on the offensive end, but the Tigers posted the stop of defense, forcing a turnover with 24 seconds to go. Parrish's three-point attempt from the wing came off the front of the rim, and Nafekh hit a pair of free throws to ice the game with nine seconds left.

The Tigers fall to 3-2 on the season, and saw their four-game win streak against the Aggies snapped. The Tigers had won the last two at the Pavilion.

Pacific will visit Nevada for a Tuesday night contest at 6:30 p.m. against the Wolf Pack at Lawlor Events Center.
