Santa Clara, Calif. - The No. 7 Pacific men's water polo team held No. 14 Santa Clara to four goals Saturday in an 8-4 road win. Krisztian Laczkovics and Simon Vogel each posted a pair of goals for the Tigers.
Kale Ai, Tim Reeves, J.T. Sarmento and Ben Stevenson also scored for Pacific, which improves to 10-4 on the season.
Pacific took the lead in the first minute with a goal from Vogel, while Ai added a marker for a 2-0 lead. Laczkovics closed the quarter with a goal for a 3-0 advantage after one.
DeMarco Orella put Santa Clara on the board in the second quarter, but Stevenson restored a three-goal lead with his 37th goal of the year. The Broncos' John Raineri closed the gap to 4-2 at the break.
In the third quarter, Laczkovics scored his 25th goal of the year on the Tigers' first possession for a 5-2 lead. Reeves stretched the gap to 6-2 at the three-minute mark and the Tigers carried the four-goal edge into the fourth.
After a Chase Schaaf goal for SCU, Vogel gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead with 5:08 to play. Sarmento put the game out of reach at 8-3 with 2:53 remaining, before a goal from the Broncos' Mark Davis with 1:04 left settled on the final margin.
The Broncos fall to 7-6 on the season.
Pacific is back in action next Saturday at the SoCal Tournament, hosted by UCLA. The Tigers will face No. 10 Princeton in the opener at 9:25 a.m. at Sunset Canyon Pool. The Tigers will face either No. 17 Loyola Marymount or No. 2 Stanford at either 1:40 p.m. (if the Tigers lose) or at 3:05 p.m. (if the Tigers win).
