Box Score Stanford, Calif. - Taking on the No. 2 team in the nation, the Pacific women's volleyball team fell in three to Stanford on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 4. The loss was just the second of the year for Pacific as the team fell to 3-2 on the year while the Cardinal improved to 2-0.
Set scores for the match were: 25-14, 25-11, 25-14.
With Stanford opening its home schedule and Pacific playing its fifth match away from home to start the season, the Tigers could not find their footing against second-ranked Cardinal falling behind early and never recovering. In each of the three sets, Stanford used a quick run against the Tigers to put Pacific on the defensive and take control of the set. Overall, the Cardinal used a balanced attack and solid defense both at the net and along the back line to hold Pacific to its lowest hitting percentage of the young season.
For the match, the Cardinal outhit the Tigers .368 to .000 as Pacific posted 23 kills and 23 errors in a season high 122 attacks. Sophomore Kat Schulz led the Tigers with six kills in the match while sophomore Mia Feiner posted 12 digs to led the way. Freshman Lexi Elman picked up her second double-digit dig effort of the season with 10 digs to go along with four kills.
The Cardinal were led on the pins by Rachel Williams and Brittany Howard who each posted 11 kills on 24 swings with just one error. Williams finished with the double-double as she added 11 digs and four blocks to Stanford's efforts. Overall, the Cardinal posted 12.0 team blocks with their All-American middles, Carly Wopat and Inky Ajanaku each tallying five. Ajanaku also added eight kills on 11 attempts to lead the Cardinals with a .727 hitting percentage.
Pacific will be back on the court on Friday, Sept. 6 when they begin play at the Portland State Tournament. The Tigers will take Oklahoma at 4:00 pm to start the tournament before playing a pair of matches on Saturday.
