Tigers Hit Road As BWC Slate Winds Down

Stockton, Calif. - The first-place Pacific women's basketball team visits Long Beach State (Thursday, 7 p.m.) and UC Irvine (Saturday, 1 p.m.) as the Big West regular season hits the home stretch.

The Tigers (21-6, 11-4 BWC) hold a half-game lead on Cal Poly (10-4 BWC), and can a bye to the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament with a win over the 49ers Thursday. The top eight make the conference tournament (Pacific has already clinched a spot), while seeds three and four enter in the quarterfinals and the top two seeds earn byes to the semifinals. The Tigers magic number to clinch a top two seed is three (a combination of Pacific wins and losses by the third place team; Hawaii, which is 10-5).

Pacific, which set a program record for wins in a season with a 74-66 Senior Day win over UC Riverside, will go for the season sweep against both Long Beach State and UC Irvine. On Feb. 2, at the Spanos Center, Pacific rolled 69-53 over the 49ers. Kendall Kenyon scored 16 points with 19 rebounds while Kendall Rodriguez added 13 points and Gena Johnson 10. Kristina Johnson chipped in a season-high eight points. The Tigers have won five out of the last six against the 49ers.

The Tigers are 34-29 all-time against UC Irvine. Pacific has won the last two games, both in the Spanos Center. The Tigers won comfortably, 68-47 on January 31, as Erica McKenzie tallied 25 points and Kendall Kenyon turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Gena Johnson added 10 points on five-of-10 shooting, while Kendall Rodriguez chipped in 10 points and Ashley Wakefield nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Pacific will play its final three regular season games on the road beginning Thursday as the Tigers look to hunt down their first Big West title in their final year in the conference. The Tigers will wrap the Big West slate at UC Davis next Saturday.
