Albuquerque, New Mex.-Pacific got of to a rough start having dropped the doubles point. The Tigers came up short in all three of the doubles events, but were determined to turn it around for the singles competitions.
In the singles competitions, sophomore Gergana Boncheva started the match off strong winning her match in straight sets in less than an hour. Then two other tigers secured wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. At this point, the score was tied 3-3 and the fate of the match rested upon freshman, Hana Ritterova's shoulders.
After having dropped the first set 3-6 to opponent Rebeca Calvillo, Ritterova picked up the second with confidence, 6-0. As the third set unfolded, Pacific Tiger pulled ahead 6-4. With this win in the third set, the Tigers claimed the match with a final score of 4-3.
"The Tigers came out slow in today's doubles play. After #1 and #3 doubles lost in well fought tie breakers the ladies went into singles with incrediable heart. Leading our Tiger pack once again was Gergana Boncheva who was off court with a victory in under an hour winning 6-1, 6-0. Hana Ritterova sealed the deal with a convincing 6-4 third set win to give the Tigers the win."
Pacific now holds a spring season record of 5-2 and 0-0 in the Big West Conference.
