Swimming Finishes The Final Day Of The Pacific Invitational

Stockton, Calif. - Closing out action at the 2013 Pacific Invitational, the Pacific women's swimming team finished the meet in second place on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Tigers finished behind San Diego State but in front of UC Davis as the Aggies joined the pool's festivities on Saturday after sitting out Friday's events.

For Pacific, the top performance of the day came from one of its youngest swimmers as freshman Margaux Verger Gourson took home her first event win in her first solo trip to the pool. Swimming the 500 Free, Verger Gourson came up with the victory by a fingers length as she outtouched UC Davis' Samantha Shellem by just over a tenth of a second posting a time of 5:00.84 to Shellem's 5:00.99. The win was the second of the weekend for the Tigers after sophomore Cristina Mardones took home a win in the 100 Breast the day prior on Friday afternoon.

Pacific just missed its second win of the day two events later when junior Dekel Shahaff finished just behind San Diego State's Loreen Whitfield in the 100 Fly. Shahaff touched the wall in a time of 56.23, just back of Whitfield's 55.95.

The Tigers are back in the pool on Friday, Oct. 25 on the road at Nevada as the women take on the Wolf Pack in duel meet action. The two teams hit the water beginning at 2:30 pm.
