Stockton, Calif.
– Pacific Cross Country continued its season at the
Sonoma State Invite with a third place finish on Saturday,
September 22. The Tigers were led by a ninth place individual
finish from freshman Lindsay
Wourms.
As a team the Tigers set a record
by over two minutes, now the best ever team time sits at 1:57:17.
The all-time mark was led by Linday Wourms' personal record of 25
seconds and Becky Grabow tying her personal record with a time of
23:22.
Overall head coach Josh Joes was
happy with his team's outing, "It was a great day today, and it
wasn't just because of the personal records. We've had four
straight weeks of races and a hard training session this
week. You could tell during the race our team's legs felt
tired. To run these times on heavy legs is a good sign for the
month of October."
He added, "Lindsay Wourms is just
an ultra competitive runner. She was sick earlier in the week
and she just pushed herself through this race, and to come out and
tie the school record is an amazing effort."
Jones continued, "We had introduced
our legs to a speed workout this week and it took a lot out of Becky
Grabow. Her endurance is unbelievable and the speed
workout took more out of her legs then most of the team. She
will be ready for the next race."
As he continued Jones said, "Mia
Knipper and Lauren
Nakaso are really fun to watch during the race. They are
basically joined at the hip and they work so well together.
They both ran exactly 30 seconds faster than at the Humboldt Invite
and made the top ten list for our program." He added, "Grace
McManus showed a great improvement today setting a personal
record by 41 seconds, early this year she was really trying to get
the competiveness back and I think she found it today. That
is a really good sign because our 5, 6, 7 runners are going to be
very important at the Big West Championships this year."
Knipper broke her personal record by 30 seconds, while Nakaso
broker her personal record by 30 seconds to finish with a time of
23:39.
Jones said, "Dale Dong, Cassi
Rush, Micaela Todd,
Ashley
Keeline and Taylor Pablo
all had season bests and with the heavy legs it's just really
awesome to see."
The Tigers are off next weekend,
but head back to the course at the UCSD Triton Invite on
October 6.
