Tokyo, Japan - With their final round of action complete at the 2012 Topy Cup, the Pacific golf team found themselves in 9th place overall on Thursday, Sept. 13. The Tigers ended their stay in Tokyo at +32 after shooting a three-day total of 872. The winner of the tournament came from the Japanese universities as Tohoku Fukushi University dominated the field by 12 strokes as they posted an 816, -24. With the win for Tohoku Fukushi Japanese universities have won 15 of the last 20 events.
Indiviually, the Tigers saw their senior Alex Edfort lead the way as the Somerset, N.J. native rebounded from his Wednesday round to post his second -1, 69 of the tournament on Thursday. With the 69, Edfort ended his opening tournament of the new season at even-par to place himself into a tie for 13th overall at the Tanagura Country Club course. His finish put himself at the top end of the pack for the American golfers as the Tiger standout finished No. 2 from the U.S. to Baylor's Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen. Overall, the tournament individual title was claimed by Shinji Tomimura of Tohoku Fukushi who posted a -8, 202 over the three days after shooting a -3, 67 in the final round of action.
Behind Edfort, sophomore Eric Sugimoto ended his tournament in Tokyo at +5 to finish tied for 29th overall as the second-year player shot 74 on the final day of play.
With their tournament complete in Tokyo, the Tigers will head back to the U.S. where they will fly to Bremerton, Wash. to take part in the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington. The two-day, three-round tournament will take place from Sept. 17-18 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course.
