Tigers To Host CSU Bakersfield In Break From League Action

Stockton, Calif. - The Tiger men's basketball team will host CSU Bakersfield in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Pacific faces the Roadrunners at 7:30pm, following the women's basketball team's game against Seattle at 5:00pm.

The Tigers are led by junior Lorenzo McCloud, who is averaging 10.4 points per game and has 52 assists. Junior Travis Fulton is scoring 9.8 points per game and a team-best 5.5 rebounds per contest.

 

LAST GAME: The Tigers won their first road game and league game with a 79-59 victory at Cal State Northridge on Jan. 12.

Long Beach State 76, Pacific 66: The Pacific men's basketball team held a late lead at Long Beach State on Saturday, Jan. 14, but dropped a 76-66 decision. The Tigers are now 5-11 on the year, 1-4 in Big West Conference play, while Long Beach State improved to 12-6 overall, 5-0 in league play. The teams played even most of the first half, tied at 5-5 and then at 11:11 after the first seven and a half minutes of the game. After a three-point play by sophomore Ross Rivera gave the Tigers a 14-11 lead, the 49ers used a 9-3 run to take a 20-17 lead with 6:44 to play in the half. Pacific finished the half on a 7-2 run, as junior Travis Fulton scored four points in the stretch. Defense was prominent in the later part of the half, as each team scored just two points in the final four minutes of the half. The Tigers shot just 34.5 percent from the field, but held the 49ers to 29.6 shooting. The teams exchanged baskets to open the second half, before sophomore Trevin Harris scored five straight to give the Tigers a 33-28 lead with 18:14 left in the game. LBSU came back to tie it up with a 7-2 run, but the went back up by four (40-36) with 16:24 to play after a pair of free throws by Fulton. Another five point run by the 49ers made it a 41-40 lead, which started a segment of nine lead changes that left the Tigers trailing 53-51 with 8:40 to play. Over the next three minutes the Tigers went on an 8-0 run started by a three-point play from Rivera. The 59-53 advantage was the largest lead of the game for Pacific, but it was short-lived. Long Beach State used an 11-1 run including a four-point play by Casper Ware over the next three minutes to reclaim the lead at 64-60 with 2:23 to play. Junior Colin Beatty answered for the Tigers with a jumper, but the 49ers scored their last 16 points from the free throw line to seal the win. The Tigers were led by a career high from Harris with 18 points. Fulton added 13 points and a team-best six rebounds. Ware led the 49ers with 20 points. The Tigers shot 38.1 percent from the field, while holding the 49ers to a 37.0 mark for the game. LBSU was 35-39 from the free throw line, an opponent season high by 17 free throw attempts. The 89.7 percent from the line was 20% higher than their season average.

Pacific 79, Cal State Northridge 59: The Pacific men's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win in Northridge as the Tigers defeated Cal State Northridge 79-59 on Thursday, Jan. 12. With the win, the Tigers improved to 5-10 on the year, 1-3 in the Big West Conference action. CSUN dropped to 4-10 overall, 1-3 in league play. The Tigers' win snapped a seven game losing streak. "We played very well," said head coach Bob Thomason. "I thought we had great shot selection and did a great job of passing the ball. Ross (Rivera), Travis (Fulton) and Lorenzo (McCLoud) all played outstanding games." The Tigers scored the first four points of the game before Cal State Northridge hit a pair of three-pointers in an 8-0 run to lead 8-4 at the 16:30 mark. Pacific turned it around, getting seven points from junior Lorenzo McCloud in a 10-0 run to take a 17-10 lead with 13:17 to play in the half. With the Tigers leading 18-14, junior Travis Fulton sparked a 10-1 run with six points to extend the lead to 28-15 with 5:42 to play. CSUN responded with a 10-2 run sparked by five points from Michael Lizarraga to cut it back to 30-25 with 2:38 to go. Five more points from Fulton guided a 7-2 finish of the half to give Pacific a 37-27 lead at the break. Pacific increased its lead to 39-27 after a layup by Fulton, but the Matadors answered with a three-pointer from Josh Greene. Leading 45-37 with 15 minutes to play, the Tigers outscored CSUN 8-1 in the next three minutes, getting four points from sophomore Ross Rivera.  Another 10-2 run moments later gave the Tigers a 62-43 lead with 9:17 to go. CSUN closed the gap to 62-50 after seven straight points, but the Tigers sealed it with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes to push the lead to 71-52 with 2:12 to go. The lead swelled to 22 (77-55) in the final moments, before a 79-59 final score. Fulton (23 points) and Rivera (21 points) each scored career highs for the Tigers. McCloud added 17 points and four steals. Pacific shot 56.3 percent from the field, holding the Matadors to 36.8 percent shooting.
