Women's Basketball Looks For Third-Straight Win Wednesday At Nevada

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team will go for a third-straight victory as the Tigers visit Nevada on Wednesday to renew a former Big West rivalry with Nevada at 7 p.m. at the Lawlor Events Center.

The Tigers (2-3) are coming off back-to-back wins over CSU Bakersfield and Southern Illinois Edwardsville. Leading the way in the two victories were the front-court tandem of senior center Christina Thompson and junior forward Kendall Rodriguez. Thompson averaged 20 points in the two games, connecting on 16 of 19 field goal attempts, while Rodriguez posted two double-doubles with 18 points per game and 12 rebounds per contest.

Rodriguez set a career-high with 24 points in the Tigers' 78-68 win over SIUE, adding 12 rebounds. Thompson, connected on eight-of-10 from the free throw line and five-of-six from the field for 18 points against the Cougars.

In the Tigers' road win over Bakersfield, Thompson posted her fourth career 20-point game, with 22 points on 11-of-13 field goals, while Rodriguez tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds with a career-high eight assists.

Pacific tallied a school record-tying 34 assists in the 96-73 win at CSU Bakersfield, as junior guards Ashley Wakefield and Erica McKenzie each chipped in six. With 26 assists in five games, McKenzie leads the Big West and ranks 38th in the NCAA with 5.2 assists per game.

For the season, Thomposn ranks 36th in the NCAA in field goal percentage (.578), hitting on 23 of her last 31 field goal attempts. With three double-doubles in five games, Rodriguez ranks 10th in the NCAA in double-doubles.

Pacific and Nevada will meet for the first time since 2000, the Wolf Pack's final season in the Big West before moving to the Western Athletic Conference. Nevada is currently 2-3 in their final season in the WAC.

The Wolf Pack opened the season with a win over Division II St. Martin's, before dropping a pair of games to North Dakota State and Binghamton in Minneapolis. Nevada rebounded with a win over Butler before a falling to No. 16 Penn State last Saturday.

The Tigers and Wolf Pack have split the all-time series, 12-12, with Nevada taking a 76-72 home victory on Jan. 3, 2000. The Tigers had won the previous matchup, 66-51, on Jan. 15, 1999 in the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Following the contest, the Tigers will have eight days off before returning to the court on Friday, December 9, against Florida at the Spanos Center.
