Tigers To Host Cal State Dominguez Hills On Monday Night

The Tiger men's basketball team hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills in a non-conference matchup on Monday, Nov. 21. It is Pacific's last home game in November, as the Tigers will play two on the road before a Dec. 3 home game against Utah State.

TIGERS VS. CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS: Pacific will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills for the first time.

 

Pacific 75, Cal State Monterey Bay 63: The Tiger men's basketball team dropped a 78-54 decision at Nevada on Thursday, Nov. 17. Pacific's record dropped to 1-1, while Nevada improved to 1-2. Nevada scored the first four points of the game, before junior Lorenzo McCloud hit a three and a driving layup to make it a 6-5 Wolfpack lead with 16:03 to play in the half. After a three-pointer from junior Markus Duran cut it to 9-8, Nevada went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-8 lead with 11:21 to play in the half. A quick 5-0 spurt capped by another trey from Duran took it back to a four-point game (17-13). The Wolfpack then outscored Pacific 13-0 over the next five and a half minutes to pull ahead 30-13 with 5:03 to go. A free throw by sophomore Khalil Kelley made it 35-18 with 2:26 left. The Wolfpack ended the half on a 14-2 run to lead 49-20 at the break. Nevada shot 69.2% (18-26) from the field, including 72.7% (8-11) from three-point range. The Tigers were just 7-30 from the field (23.3%) in the first 20 minutes, hitting just three of 14 three-pointers.

After Nevada opened up 60-24 lead with 16:04 left, the Tigers went on a 20-4 run over the next nine minutes to make it 64-44 with 7:14 to play.  Sophomore Trevin Harris and De Souza each had five points in the run. The Wolfpack pushed the lead back to 28 (78-50) before the Tigers scored the final four points of the game. Nevada shot a blistering 58.3% (28-48) from the field and hit 10 of 22 three-point attempts. Pacific shot just 31.3% (21-67) from the field. The Tigers scored 23 points off of turnovers, forcing 25 turnovers. McCloud led the Tigers with 11 points, while De Souza added 10 points. Kelley had six rebounds to lead Pacific. Nevada's Malik Story led the team with 18 points.

Pacific 75, Cal State Monterey Bay 63: The Pacific men's basketball team opened up the 2011-12 season with  a 75-63 win over California State University Monterey Bay. The Tigers began the season 1-0, while the Otters started out 0-1. After CSUMB took an early 6-3 lead, junior Colin Beatty sank a three-pointer with 15:33 left on the clock to give the Tigers their first lead of the night at 8-6, capping off a 5-1 run from the floor. After the Otters tied it at 8-8 with a deep jumper, sophomore Khalil Kelley started a 7-0 rally to give the Tigers a 15-8 lead that Pacific would not relinquish. The Otters countered with a 6-0 stretch to bring CSUMB to within one (15-14) with 10:43 remaining in the half. Junior Markus Duran extended Pacific's lead, putting the Tigers up by four with a three from just behind the arc to make it 18-14 with 10:28 left on the clock. After the rival teams exchanged baskets, junior Rodrigo De Souza landed a three-pointer that ignited a 16-0 Pacific run to make it 38-20. The Tigers held CSUMB scoreless for 5:13 while scoring 12 of their 16 points off of three-pointers, with two treys from Beatty. Junior Andrew Bock scored six of Pacific's final nine points in the half as the Tigers took a 21-point lead (47-26) before the Otters' J.J. Campbell hit a three to make it 47-29 at the break. In the opening seconds of the second half, De Souza broke away with a steal to give the Tigers a 20 point advantage at 49-29. CSUMB came to life in the first part of the second half, using a 14-6 run to come within 11 with 13:50 left in the game, but it wasn't enough for the Otters. Pacific extended their lead back to 20 points (65-45) with 7:27 to play and held off CSUMB after an 11-4 run to finish with a 12 point win. Pacific finished the game with three players scoring in double digits, led by Beatty with 14 points and six rebounds. Bock followed with 13 points and three assists, while De Souza posted 11 points with three steals.
