Results
Stockton, Calif. – In the final home meet of the 2010-11 season Pacific's men's swim team split action against Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz. The Tigers tied the Sunbirds 131-131 and defeated the Banana Slugs 222-40. Pacific's women's swim team defeated the Sunbirds (178-80) and the Banana Slugs (183-73). With the win and tie the men's team improved to 2-3-1 (1-2 MPSF) on the season while the women improved to 7-2 (4-0 MPSF) on the year.
Freshman MaryElla Randall (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took the top spots in the women's 50 Free and 100 Free with times of 24.36 and 54.48 respectively. Becca Wyant (Redmond, Wash.) rounded out the top three in the 50 Free for the Tigers when she touched the wall in 24.97. On the men's side sophomore Kevin Shchirmer (Danville, Calif.) nabbed second place finishes in the 50 Free and 100 Free with times of 21.52 and 47.12. Taylor Moore (Sacramento, Calif.) finished fourth in the 50 with a pace of 21.87 while senior Steven Woods (Walnut Creek, Calif.) finished fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 48.47. Woods also picked up a first place finish in the 200 Free, touching the wall in 1:45.75.
The Tigers dominated the 200 Free and 500 Free races on women's side. Hayley Shillington (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Bo Cameron (Weymouth, England) captured the top two spots in the 200 Free with times of the 1:54.64 and 5:04.31 respectively. Shillington also won the 500 Free with a pace of 5:04.31. In the men's 500 Free mid-distance race, Zachary Zlotoff (San Jose, Calif.) had Pacific's top finish when he came in second with a pace of 4:41.11. Zlotoff also had the Tigers top finish in the 1650 Free when he touched the wall in 16:17.62 to finish second. Jayme Swalin (Kenmore, Wash.), Laurie White (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Ellen Barton (Modesto, Calif.) had consecutive finished to claim the top three spots in the 1650 Free for Pacific with times of 17:41.06, 18:15.51 and 18:59.46.
In the women's 100 Back Wyant and Shelby Bolin (Blue Springs, Mo.) finished one-two with paces of 1:00.00 and 1:00.29 correspondingly. Bolin then went on to finish first in the 200 Back (2:09.41) and was followed with a second place finish from Cameron (2:15.29). On the men's side Oliver Simkovic (Vienna, Austria) finished first in the 200 Back (1:53.71) and second in the 100 Back (52.37). Also placing in the top-five for the Tigers in the 100 Back and 200 Back was senior Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.) who finished fourth in the 100 Back (53.86) and second in the 200 Back (1:58.83).
Sophomore Mallory McGowan (Colusa, Calif.) had a pair of first place finishes in the 100 Breast and 200 Breast with times of 1:05.37 and 2:23.83. While Pacific's top finishes on the men's side came from Roger Ward (San Leandro, Calif.) in the 200 Breast and Nathan LeRoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.) in the 100 Breast. Ward finished first in the 200 Breast (2:09.56) while LeRoy came in first in the 100 Breast (59.66).
The Tigers also had a pair of first place finishes in the women's Fly events from junior Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Jenna Chaplin (Nassau, Bahamas). Walterman had a pace of 58.73 to claim the top spot in the 100 Fly while Chaplin had a pace of 2:07.59 in the 200 Fly. For the men, Dai Wilson (Zomba, Malawi) had a pair of third place finishes in the Fly events. His first came in the 100 Fly when Wilson touched the wall in 52.71 and he picked up his second in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:58.36.
In the relay races the women's 200 Free Relay team comprised of Randall, Shannon Van Konynenbury (Cape Town, South Africa), Shillington and Wyant had a collective time of 1:39.91 to finish first. While the men's 200 Free Relay team consisting of Schirmer, Taylor Moore (Sacramento, Calif.), Hernandez and Woods had a collective time of 1:25.17 to come in second.
The Tigers closed out the dual meet with a first place finish from the women's 400 medley relay team and a second place finish from the men's 400 medley relay team. The women's relay team consisting of Cameron, McGowan, Walterman and Randall had a time of 4:00.07 to nab the top spot, while the men's relay team made up of Simkovic, LeRoy, Hernandez and Schirmer came in second with a collective time of 3:31.12.
Pacific's swim teams returns to action on Friday, January 28 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., at Cal Poly at 2 p.m.
