Tigers Run Away From Cal State Bakersfield With 79-46 Win

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team ran away from Cal State Bakersfield with a 79-46 victory on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the Spanos Center in Stockton. With the non-conference victory, Pacific improved to 10-7 on the year, while the Roadrunners dropped to 8-8.

The Tigers opened up a 6-0 lead in the early going, thanks to a tough defense that held Cal State Bakersfield to 0-6 shooting and a pair of turnovers in the opening four minutes. The Roadrunners then used a pair of three-pointers to cut the lead to 8-6 with 14:58 to play in the half. Leading 14-10, sophomore Allen Huddleston (Merced, Calif.) hit a pair of three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to take the Tiger lead to 20-10 at the midway point of the half. Cal State Bakersfield's Donavan Bragg then hit jumpers on consecutive trips to make it 22-16 with 7:10 to play. The Tiger defense stepped up again, holding the Roadrunners to just two points over the next six minutes. Five Tigers scored in the 12-2 run as Pacific took a 34-18 lead with :41 seconds to go. Rashad Savage scored on a put-back jumper with :02 seconds left to cut the Tigers' lead to 34-20 at the break.

After the Roadrunners cut the lead to 37-25, Tiger senior Demetrece Young (Oklahoma City, Okla.) scored four points in an 8-1 run to give the Tigers a 45-26 lead with 17:02 to play. Minutes later, Bakersfield again scored six straight, to make it 51-40 with 11:05 left. The Roadrunners scored just two field goals the rest of way, as Senior Nyika Williams (Kingston, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) ignited a 12-1 run over the next five minutes to give the Tigers a 63-41 lead. A Roadrunner basket at the 5:53 mark led to another 11-0 Tiger run, sparked by four more points from Huddleston to make it 74-43 with 2:25 to go. The Tigers then cruised to the 33 point victory.

All 10 active Tigers on the active roster scored in the contest, as Pacific shot a season-best 55.4 percent from the field. Huddleston led the way with a career-high 18 points. Senior Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) notched his 12th double-double of the year, scoring 15 points with a career-best 18 rebounds. Williams (12), Young (10) and senior Pat Eveland (10) also hit double-figures for Pacific. The Tigers took advantage of 13 Roadrunner turnovers, with a 17-4 edge in point off of turnovers.

The Tigers are next in action at Long Beach State on Saturday, Jan. 15. The game is set for an 8:00 p.m. tipoff on Fox Sports Prime Ticket.
