Tigers Roll at USF, 76-54

SAN FRANCISCO - Four Tigers scored in double-figures as the Pacific women's basketball team rolled to a 76-54 win at San Francisco Saturday at War Memorial Gym. Sophomore forward Jordan Rogers (Sparks, Nev.) tallied a game-high 16 points while freshman forward Danielle Peacon (Sparks, Nev.) added her second career double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

"I'm pleased with how we played. We played for a full 40 minutes," head coach Lynne Roberts said. "We talked in practice about putting in a complete game and emphasizing defense. And we put that together today. We did a good job defensively. Offensively, we got out and ran, we shot the ball well, so it was a good win for us. Everyone contributed, the bench played well. All in all it was a good team win."

Pacific (3-6) held USF to just 30 percent shooting (22-of-72) and led from start to finish for the Tigers first road win of the season. The connected on nine of their first 20 three-point attempts, and shot 40 percent (27-of-67) for the game. Pacific held a 54-41 advantage on the glass and out-scored USF 34-26 on the interior.

Sophomore forward Kendall Rodriguez (La Habra, Calif.) added 14 points with eight rebounds while freshman guard Gena Johnson (Elk Grove, Calif.) chipped in a career-high 12 points on four-of-six shooting. Senior guard Jennifer Fath (Carrollton, Texas) tallied nine points with three assists, while sophomore guard Erica McKenzie (Sparks, Nev.) added eight points to go with three helpers. Freshman forward Taryn Garza (Modesto, Calif.) picked up seven points with five rebounds. Rogers added eight rebounds as she and Rodriguez each finished a pair of boards shy of double-doubles.

The Tigers opened to a 14-6 lead as they got off to a hot shooting start. The Tigers connected on eight of their first 15 attempts from the field, as Rodriguez tallied seven early points. Pacific then forced a pair of USF turnovers, capitalizing to stretch the margin to double-digits, at 27-16 on a pair of free throws from Rogers at the 8:01 mark.

Pacific led by as many as 21 in the first half, as Rodriguez knocked down a three-pointer with 41 seconds left in the half, but Vania Singleterry responded with a jumper to cut the half-time margin to 41-22.

The Tigers held USF to 24 percent shooting in the first half, while forcing 11 first-half turnovers. Pacific capitalized on those 11 turnovers for 12 points off the miscues. Pacific also owned a 18-8 edge in the paint at intermission.

The second half, Pacific coasted home, leading by as many as 31 points at 60-29 with 14:15 to in the ballgame on a fast-break lay-up from Johnson.

The Dons slowly whittled the lead back down as the Tigers slowed down their offense, called off the press, and took the air out of the ball. USF got as close as 19 with 2:18 to go, but Fath scored in transition to re-establish the 20-point margin.

USF was led by 12 points from Donnisha Taylor, while Katy Keating grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. The Dons fall to 2-7.

Pacific will take on Santa Clara on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the final game of a three-game road swing before returning home on Saturday, Dec, 18 to play host to Portland at 2 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
