The Tigers' cross country team started off their 2009 season at the USF Invitational at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Calif. on Saturday, September 5. Using the meet as a workout, the team showed a strong start for the year, with an eighth place finish.

Junior Kristina Hammarstrom (Manteca, Calif.) led the team with a time of 20:05.6. This was a six second improvement from last year's meet.

Sophomore Jazmin Quiroz (San Jose, Calif.) fought hard during the last 100 meters to out run a San Jose State runner to finish with a time of 21:34.20. Junior Devon Blount (Bucks County, Pa.), who is coming off a season with injury and is currently fighting some lower leg problems, had a respectable time of 23:31.20.

Coach Jones is pleased with the hard work the team has put in this past month. "The ladies have been working really hard and I'm very excited to have such a hard working group. No one gives up, and day in and day out the just keep going. We trained through this meet and the ladies showed a solid performance on tired legs."

The Tigers' next competition will the Hornet Jamboree, hosted by Sacramento State University at Granite Regional Park on September 12.
