Tigers Finish Ninth at Big West Championships

Riverside, Calif. - The women's cross country team took ninth place in the Big West Championships on Saturday, October 31. Junior Kristina Hammarstrom (Manteca, Calif.) finished in 57th for the Tigers with a time of 23:12.8, for her second fastest career time.

Sophomore Jazmin Quiroz (San Jose, Calif.) finished 70th with her fastest career time of 25:27.5.

Junior Devin Blount (Bucks County, Pa.) finished in 73rd with a time of 28:11.6, followed by Lia Genovese (Bow, N.H.) who finished in 28:46.9. Genovese knocked her old time down by 1:45.  Kirstin Kita (Torrance, Calif.) took 75th, posting a time of 29:30.0, taking one and a half minutes off her old time. Sophomore Hilary King finished at 29:47.3 and sophomore Gillian Flagg (Los Alamitos, Calif.) recorded a time of 30:13.2.

Coach Josh Jones was pleased with the improvement and effort of the team.

"The ladies ran really well. You could not ask more as a coach for how hard they ran, said Jones. "The conference is tough, very fast conference, and our ladies work really hard and it shows in their improvement. I'm proud of what they have done and I'm excited for the future."

The Tigers will be competing in the NCAA Western Regionals on November 14 in Eugene, Oreg.
