Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific cross country team took a 10th place finish at the 5K Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 17, 2009. All Tiger runners had their best time of the season during the race.

Junior Kristina Hammarstrom (Manteca, Calif.) finished ninth for Pacific with a time of 19:24. Sophomore Jazmin Quiroz (San Jose, Calif.) ran a 20:45, taking a 59th place finish.

Freshman Lia Genovese (Bow N.H.) finished with a time of 23:58, followed a few spots behind by Kristin Kita (Torrance, Calif.). Kita slaughter her previous 5K time by two minutes.

Getting to run in her first race of the season, Hilary King (Torrance, Calif.) ran a time of 24:16. Gillian Flagg (Los Alamitos, Calif.) knocked 2:17 off her previous 5K time, by running a 24:34.

Coach Josh Jones is pleased with the team's performance and improvement.

"The ladies ran well," said coach Josh Jones. "It was a big meet with lots of competition. The first mile was pretty crowded to find their pace. Jazmin was caught up in a large group which threw her off a little for the first mile. What was really impressive was Gillian and Kirstin taking two minutes off their previous 5k. Hilary was equally impressive by coming off a yearlong injury and being the 5th runner for us today she showed a lot of determination. This year we have had a lot of transition, having five new members on the team and being my first year here, but we are starting to hit our stride and will run well at conference."

The Tigers next race will be the Big West Championships on October 31.
