Stockton, Calif - At the end of the first day of the Pacific Invitational, Pacific's men's swimming finished in third place. U.S. Air Force claimed the first place spot with BYU finishing in second place.
The Pacific men's relay teams began the day finishing the 200 Medley Relay back-to-back with times of 1:38.36 and 1:39.33.
In the 400 IM sophomore Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) touched the wall with a time of 4:13.12 for the second place finish behind BYU's Hayden Palmer. Also finishing in the top 10 for the Tigers were junior Daniel Platow (Westport, Conn.) and freshman Sean Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md.). Sophomore Kevin Schirmer (Danville, Calif.) completed the 50 Free with a time of 22.51 for an eighth place finish.
In their second events of the day, freshman Chris Weber (Valencia, Calif.) and Jonathan Alves (Davenport, Iowa) finished the 100 Breaststroke with times of 1:01.70 and 1:02.32 respectively.
The men's relay teams claimed the fifth and sixth spots in the 400 Free Relay with times of 3:22.27 and 3:23.21. Junior Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) completed the 1650 Free in 16:27.62 behind Air Force's Sean O'Keefe and BYU's Hon Kendrick. Freshman Zach Zlotoff (San Jose, Calif.) rounded out the top 10 touching the wall in 16:47.92.
The Pacific Invitational continues Saturday, Oct. 17, at 12 p.m. at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
