Sept. 13, 2008
Oakland, Calif. - In the six-team Mills College Invitational on Sept. 13, runners Micaela Klaus (Peru, N.Y.) and Kristina Hammarstrom (Manteca, Calif.) took the official second- and third-place spots in a field of 80 runners to give Pacific a second-place victory behind Sonoma State.
Klaus finished the challenging run with a 19:47.58 time, as Hammarstrom came up right behind her teammate in 20:12.08.
Pacific assistant coach Marie Nguyen ran as an unaffiliated party and she finished the race sandwiched in between Hammarstrom and Klaus with a 20:02.00 run. However, since she did not race for a team, she was not awarded any points, and so Hammarstrom was awarded third place, even though she was the fourth runner to cross the line.
Pacing the Seawolves' charge, Katie Bolce topped all runners with a 19:34.36 race, nearly 14 seconds ahead of Klaus. Bolce's time helped contribute to Sonoma's 30 points all, to give them a first-place finish in the event.
Pacific closed out the morning in second with 60 points, as Meghan Mullen (South San Francisco, Calif.), Devon Blount (Hilltown, Pa.) and Oakland-native Victoria Lam were the next three Pacific runners to finish the race in 17th, 35th and 45th-place, respectively.
The Tigers next return to action in the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.
