Tigers Dominate UC Davis, 95-50

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team delivered their most complete performance of the 2007-08 season, defeating UC Davis, 95-50, on Thursday, Feb. 28. The 95 points are a season-high for the Tigers.

The win vaulted Pacific to 19-9 on the season and 9-5 in the Big West Conference. UC Davis, meanwhile, fell to 8-20 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

An even start saw the game tied 11-11 with 13:30 remaining in the first half. Junior Chad Troyer (Seattle, Wash.) then hit back-to-back three-pointers for the Tigers to give Pacific a 17-11 with 12:19 left in the first half. After the Aggies cut the lead to 20-17, the Tigers used a 12-4 run to extend the lead to 32-21. Another three-pointer by Troyer later with a minute left gave the Tigers a 40-26 lead at the break.

After UC Davis cut the lead to 42-29 a minute into the second half, the Tigers outscored the Aggies 24-8 to open up a 39 point lead (79-37) with 9:34 left in the game. Troyer hit four more treys and scored 16 points in that stretch. After four straight points by the Aggies, the Tigers struck again with an 8-0 run to take the lead to 43 (86-43) with 4:44 remaining. Pacific would lead by as much as 47 and cruise to the final.

The Tigers' field goal percentage of 66.7% (36-54) is the fourth best in school history, while the margin of victory is the second largest for a Pacific team in a Big West game. Overall, the 45-point win stands as a tie for the seventh largest margin of victory in school history.

Troyer led the Tigers with 27 points, including a career-high eight three-pointers. The eight three-pointers tied for the second most in a single game in the Pacific record book. He tied current assistant coach Adam Jacobsen, who did it twice, and Mike Webb for second place. Troyer was one off of the school record of nine, made by Clay McKnight in 1998. Junior Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.) was the only other Tiger to score in double figures, adding 11 points.

Pacific had 21 assists and just five turnovers in the game, outscoring the Aggies 14-2 in points off of turnovers.

Vince Oliver and David Carter each scored 13 points for UC Davis.

Pacific will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 7 p.m. in San Luis Obispo, Calif. as the Tigers battle Cal Poly in Mott Gym.
