Tigers Fall at Cal State Fullerton, 92-78

Fullerton, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team fell to 17-8, 8-4 in the Big West Conference with a 92-78 loss at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Titans improved to 16-7 (9-3 Big West) with the win.

The Tigers battled back from an early four-point deficit to take a 14-13 lead with 12:13 left in the first half, after a layup by junior Bryan LeDuc (Corona, Calif.) and a three-pointer by junior Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.). After a three-pointer from junior Chad Troyer (Seattle, Wash.) tied the game at 19-19, the Titans went on a 12-0 to take a 31-19 lead with 6:00 left in the half. After going scoreless for two minutes, the Tigers ended the half on a 14-6 run to cut the lead to 37-33 at the break.

Pacific was able to cut the Titan lead to 42-39 with 18:14 remaining in the game after two straight three-pointers from sophomore C.J. Morgan (Elk Grove, Calif.). The Titans responded with a 5-0 spurt to take the lead back to 47-39 with 16:54 left. After the Tigers used a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 49-45 with 15:29 remaining, Cal State Fullerton scored five straight points to take lead back to nine (54-45) with 14:28 left. The Tigers would not get closer than seven the rest of the way.

Both teams shot well for the game, with the Titans out-shooting the Tigers 61.0%-54.7%. The Titans took advantage of 23 Tiger turnovers, scoring 40 points off of Tiger turnovers.

Johnson and junior James Doran (Cameron Park, Calif.) led the Tigers with 12 each. Doran's 12 points were a career high. LeDuc added 10 points for the Tigers.

Scott Cutley led the Titans with 24 points.

Pacific is next in action with a home game against UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised by Comcast's SJTV.
