Tigers Fall to Denver Swimming Teams by Narrow Margin

Nov. 8, 2008

Final Stats

Denver, Colo. - For the second time this season, the Pacific men's and women's teams squared off against a university with both a swimming and diving team and despite strong individual performances, the women fell 106-90 as the men suffered a 105-89 loss to Denver. Senior Jenny Lewis (Hesperia, Calif.) led all swimmers with two individual event titles to her name on Nov. 8.

After the dual meet loss, the women's squad fell to 3-2 while the men's overall record dropped to 1-3.

Lewis continued to excel in freestyle events as she's been doing virtually her entire career at Pacific, claiming the 50 and 100 Free for the Orange and Black. She touched the wall first in 52.87 in the 100-yard race and then set a new season-best time in the 50 Free with a 23.85 time, just hundredths of a second off of her career-fastest pace. Her time in the event this season leads all Pacific swimmers thus far.

In the men's freestyle events, senior Justin Canty (El Cajon, Calif.) enjoyed a second-place 22.05 finish in the 100 Free, behind Denver's Blake Worsley who touched in 21.42. Canty's pace is his fastest of the season and jumped his time up three spots of all Pacific swimmers this season, to set the bench mark for the newest 50 Free men's record in the 2008-09 season.

During individual medley races, junior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) shattered her fastest time in the 400 IM, setting a new career mark with a time of 4:33.39, good enough to get her a No. 2 finish in the event. McGhee bettered that finish in the 200 Fly, when she won the race outright, finishing in 2:06.43, ahead of Denver's 2:07.17 as recorded by Lisa Ginder.

In his home state, senior Matt Lundy (Lafayette, Colo.) earned the second of top-three finishes in IM races for the Tigers when he touched the wall in 2:00.06 in the 200 IM.

Both teams will have one week off before they continue on their road trip to Long Beach, Calif., to partake in the 2008 Nike Cup from Nov. 20 to 22.
