Seniors Micaela Klaus and Meghan Mullen Close Our Their Careers at the NCAA West Regionals

Stanford, Calif.- The Pacific women's cross country team ran in its final meet of the season on Saturday Nov. 15, competing in the NCAA West Regional held at Stanford University Golf Course. Senior Micaela Klaus (Peru, New York) led the Tigers in the 6K event, with a time of 23:03.26.

Six Tigers ran in the meet, in which the team posted a 29th place finish overall. It was the final meet in the careers of Klaus and fellow senior Meghan Mullen (South San Francisco, Calif.) as they both will graduate in May with their respective degrees. Sophomore Kristina Hammarstrom (Manteca, Calif.) finished second on the Tigers squad with a time of 23:16.31, while Mullen finished third, recording a 25:41.30.

Three Tigers competed in their first ever Regional event, as sophomore Katie Bella (Beavertown, Ohio), freshman Jazmin Quiroz (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Devon Blount (Germantown, Penn.) finished in the final three spots for Pacific.

The meet featured some of the most prestigious cross country programs as University of Washington, University of Oregon and Stanford took the top three team spots. Oregon's Alex Kosinski took the individual top spot with a time of 19:59.01. Pacific finished ahead of the University of Hawai'i in 29th place overall.

Klaus completes her career at Pacific having broken the school record in the 6K with a time of 22:36.60, on Nov. 1, 2008 at the Big West Championships in Riverside, Calif. Klaus's best finish in a 5K event was 18:47.00 at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 18, 2008.

Mullen rounds out her career as a Tiger with a career best 23:24.00 in the 6K, which she earned at the San Francisco State University Invitational in 2007. Her best 5K time was 19:30.00, earned at the 2007 USF Invitational.

"I am quite pleased with the girls' performances today," said head coach Greg Rhines. "We summed up a record breaking year today. I am very proud of my team. If one wants to know the definition of 'giving it your all' is, just look at the Pacific Cross Country team."
