Seattle, Wash. - The Pacific baseball team fell to 5-12-1 on the season after a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Washington Huskies (5-8) on Friday, March 9th at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies put up three runs in the first two innings, which included a two-RBI single by Brian Pearl in the first and a RBI sacrifice fly by Matt Hague in the second to lead 3-0.
Pacific cut it to a two run lead at 3-1 in the top of the third as the Tigers got an RBI double by junior Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) that plated junior Jason Haar (San Diego, Calif.), who led off the inning with a single.
Washington put another run across the board in the bottom of the sixth as Bradley Boyer had an RBI single to make the score 4-1. The Tigers bounced right back in the top of the seventh as sophomore Zach Chamberlin (San Rafael, Calif.) blasted a solo shot over the right field wall to pull Pacific back to within two at 4-2 through seven innings.
Washington closer Nick Hagadone then came on to pitch the final two frames in relief of starter Nick Haughian (1-2) and throwing two scoreless innings to pick up his third save.
Pacific starter, freshman David Rowse (Pleasanton, Calif.) pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out six. His record on the season falls to 1-3. Playing in front of his family, sophomore Cole Akins (Seattle, Wash.) pitching one and a third innings of scoreless baseball in relief.
The Tigers and Huskies will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 10th at Husky Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
