Pacific Falls To Cal State Fullerton, 82-77

The Pacific men's basketball team fell to 8-14 overall and 4-5 in Big West Conference action with an 82-77 conference loss to Cal State Fullerton (17-5, 7-3 Big West) on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Senior Michael White (Capitola, Calif.) led Pacific with a career-high tying 20 points and nine rebounds. Senior Reggie Vezia (Vacaville, Calif.) notched career highs with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers. Sophomore Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) had 15 points despite 7-of-16 free throw shooting and junior Solomon Horsechief (Muskogee, Okla.) scored 12 points with seven assists.

The Tigers' took a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer by HorseChief on the opening possession, but the Titans scored the next eight points and would lead until Pacific fought back to take a 25-23 lead on a three-pointer by senior Anthony Esparza (Bakersfield, Calif.). The teams traded the lead on the next five possessions with the Titans again pulling ahead. The Tigers evened it up on a three-point play by HorseChief at 38-38 with 2:41 left in the half. Cal State Fullerton outscored the Tigers 8-1 the rest of the half, as Pacific missed four free throws.

The Titans scored the first four points of the second half to take their biggest lead (50-39), then held off the Tigers down the stretch. Trailing by 10 with 11:15 left, Pacific scored the next six points (five from Vezia) to cut the lead to four (65-61) with 9:13 left. Cal State Fullerton responded with a three-pointer by Marcus Crenshaw and the lead did not slip below five points the rest of the way.

Despite shooting 55.3% from the field, the Tigers made just 19 of 33 free throws, missing 10 in the second half. The Tigers hit 74.0% of their two-point field goal attempts (20-27). Rebounds between the teams were even at 31-31, but the Titans had 15 offensive boards the Tigers' nine.

Frank Robinson scored 19 points to lead Cal State Fullerton.

The Tigers are next in action against UC Riverside on Saturday, Feb. 10 in the Alex G. Spanos Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
