Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team suffered an 84-64 loss to Portland on Friday, Dec. 28.
The loss dropped Pacific to 4-8 on the season, while Portland improved to 9-5 on the season.
The Tigers got off to a slow start right out of the gates as Portland grabbed an 11-2 lead with 13:30 remaining in the first half. Despite digging themselves a hole, Pacific was able to claw back into the contest with a 13-4 run over the four minutes. Freshman Jennifer Fath (Carrollton, Texas) led the Pacific charge with five points during the run. Three other Tigers chipped in. Junior Whitney Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) pulled Pacific even at 15-15 with back-to-back free throws.
Following a timeout from Pilot head coach Jim Sollars, Portland responded with 11 straight points to reclaim the lead at 26-15 with 5:46 remaining in the half. Pacific got as close as five with just over two minutes left in the half and went into the locker room trailing 35-27.
Senior Kelsey Lavender (Lake Oswego, Ore.) opened the second half with a three-pointer to pull the Tigers back within five points, but that was as close as Pacific got.
Portland pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 24 points with 1:20 left in the game. The Pilots went on to take the game, 84-64.
Fath and junior Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the Tigers with 15 points, while Lavender finished with 12 points.
Laiken Dollente led all scorers with 24 points, while Rachel Warren finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Pacific returns to the court on Sunday, Dec. 30 as the Tigers close out the year by hosting Idaho at 4 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
