Dec. 2, 2007

Box Score

Greeley, Colo. - For the first time this season the Pacific women's basketball team fell on the road as they dropped a 67-58 decision at Northern Colorado on Sunday, December 2. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-3 on the season while the Bears improved to 4-3 overall.

The game began with a burst for the Tigers as they jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes of the contest led by the hot hand of junior Amy VanHollebeke (San Diego, Calif.) who scored eight of the first 10 points for Pacific. However, the fast start slowed and the Tigers were cooled off from the floor as they finished the night shooting just 32.9% (23-of-70), their lowest field goal percentage of the season, so far.

As the Tigers shooting woes grew the Bears were able to climb back into the contest throughout the first half, finally taking their first lead of the game with 3:10 to play, never relinquishing control of the game from that point on. The Bears took a seven point lead into the halftime break while they outscored Pacific by two in the second half to finish with the nine point win.

Despite the Tigers shooting troubles, Pacific still managed to outshot their opponent as the Bears hit just 32.1% (18-of-56) of their shots from the floor. Northern Colorado was able to offset its troubles from the floor with a generous amount of trips to the charity stripe as the Bears knocked down 26-of-35 free throws in the game on 27 Tiger fouls.

On the night, junior Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way for the Tigers with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks in just her second game back after missing the beginning of the season due to injury. Freshman Andrea Swanson (Littleton, Colo.), playing in her home state and family and friends, posted a team-high 11 points in the game on 4-of-12 shooting. She added five rebounds and two blocks in addition.

VanHollebeke tied Swanson for the team lead in scoring with 11 points as she knocked down a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the contest after scoring eight points in the first two minutes of the contest. VanHollebeke was not alone in her struggles and junior Janae Young (Sacramento, Calif.), the Tigers' leading scorer at 13.8 points per game, was held under 10 points for the first time this season as she posted four points and six rebounds in the loss.

On the other side of the court, Whitley Cox, a high school teammate of junior Whitney Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) at Centennial High, led all scorers with 26 points. Cox hit 7-of-20 shots from the floor and 11-of-16 shots from the free throw line. Cox's 16 free throw attempts was three more than the entire Tigers' team as Pacific went 7-of-13 from the line. Price had five points and five rebounds while dishing out four assists.

Behind Cox, Jaime Schroeder posted a double-double in the contest with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Danielle Hagen tallied nine points and 11 rebounds.

In the contest the Tigers were just 5-of-23 (17.9%) from behind the arc on the day.

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, December 4 as they travel to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on Colorado State. The game is scheduled for 6:00 pm (PT)
