Junior Kara Uhl Powers Pacific Past UC Riverside, 3-0

Stockton, Calif. - Behind a season-high 20 kills from junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) the Pacific women's volleyball team defeated UC Riverside, 3-0, on Friday, Nov. 2.

The win moved the Tigers to 14-7 on the season and 7-5 in the Big West Conference, while UC Riverside fell to 5-17 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

Uhl and the Tigers got off to a fast start in the first game as Kara tallied nine kills in game one. Fellow junior Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) notched another seven kills in the game as the Tigers slammed down 23 kills in route to a 30-21 win. Pacific hit .339 during the frame as the Tigers committed just three errors on 59 attempts.

The Tigers' offensive pace slowed slightly in game two, but Pacific's defensive pressure picked up the slack. The Tigers held UC Riverside just nine kills and forced five errors in game two as the Highlanders posted a .100 hitting percentage. The Tigers meanwhile converted 19 kills and had just eight errors as Pacific went on to take game two, 30-25.

The third and decisive frame saw the Tigers raise their hitting percentage back over .300 with 20 kills and six errors on 44 attempts. Pacific separated themselves from the Highlanders midway through the game. Leading 12-10, Pacific scored nine of the next eleven points to build a 21-12 edge. Once again Uhl led the way for the Tigers with three kills and an ace during the run, while senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) connected on two kills as well. The Tigers stretched their lead to as much as 11 at 28-17 and took the match with a 30-23 win.

Uhl's led all attackers with a season-high 20 kills, while Anderson and Hilbers each finished with 12 kills. Junior setter Shannon Krug (Colorado Springs, Colo.) notched an impressive 49 assists in the victory.

Dominique Cowling led UC Riverside with seven kills in the match.

Pacific returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 3 as the Tigers host UC Irvine in a pivotal Big West Conference match at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
