Box Score

Stockton, Calif. - For the first time in the 2007-08 season the Pacific women's basketball team tasted defeat as they fell 65-60 to the visiting Gators of San Francisco State on Saturday, November 17. With the loss the Tigers fell to 2-1 on the season.

The Tigers could not overcome their own mistakes throughout the night as Pacific committed 24 turnovers in the contest and shot just 33.9% from the field, their lowest shooting percentage of the season to date, in the loss.

In the first half, Pacific got on the board first on a three-point basket by junior Janae Young (Sacramento, Calif.). However, the first points of the contest would be their only basket for the first six minutes of the game as the Tigers watched the Gators build a 13-3 lead by the 13:57 mark in the opening half. Down big early, the Tigers used the rest of the first half to chip away at the Gators lead, finally tying the game at 26-26 nearly 10 minutes later. The Tigers were able to clamp down defensively on the Gators in the final 10 minutes of the half, led by Young who produced three steals and a block for Pacific to close out the half. Offensively, sophomore Emma Head (San Diego, Calif.) led the charge back for Pacific scoring nine first half points and grabbing five rebounds.

Tied 33-33 at the break, the game's momentum appeared to be swinging towards the Tigers favor, however, just as the first half went, so too did the second half of the contest. Through the first eight minutes of the second half, the Tigers mustered just three points while the Gators poured in 20 to take a commanding 17 point lead. Once again, the Tigers mounted a late rally, starting with a 7-0 run bookended by long range shots from both Young and sophomore Jake Kelly (Fair Oaks, Calif.). With Pacific using all of its energy to climb back to within just three points of San Francisco State with :38 second to play the Gators would not let their lead completely slip away as they did in the first half, holding on to win by five.

Young led the way for the Tigers as she tied for a game-high with 16 points. She added eight rebounds and a career-best five steals in the contest. Brio Rode also scored 16 in the game for the Gators, hitting 5-of-9 shots including 3-of-6 from behind the arc.

Kelly finished the game with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting, 4-of-11 from distance, while Head ended the game with 13 points and nine rebounds, one shy of her second consecutive double-double. Defensively, Head posted three blocks, one shy of her career high. Junior Whitney Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) made her season debut for the Tigers after missing the first to games. She grabbed four rebounds in her return to action.

For the Gators, Krystle Mays dropped in 12 points while grabbing four rebounds and four steals while Dominique Hunter added 10 points to round out the scoring.

The Tigers will be back in action as they head to San Jose, Calif. to take on the Spartans of San Jose State. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
