Matching The Largest Margin of Victory in Tiger Rally Scoring History, Pacific Dispatched Cal State Fullerton, 3-0

Stockton, Calif. - Keyed by a record-tying 30-11 victory in game one, the Pacific women's volleyball team defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The victory lifted Pacific to 13-5 on the season and 6-3 in the Big West conference. Cal State Fullerton, meanwhile, fell to 10-10 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Game scores for the match were: 30-11, 30-25, 30-25.

The Tigers hit the floor with complete focus in game one as Pacific scored nine of the first ten points of the contest. Junior Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) pounded down three kill during Pacific's opening run. The Tigers never looked back in game one as Pacific went on to easily take the frame, 30-11. Pacific delivered 18 kills and just two errors on 40 swings in the game for a .400 hitting percentage, while Cal State Fullerton had six kills and seven errors on 38 attempts to post a -.026 average.

The 19-point margin tied Pacific's largest margin of victory in a single game since 2001 when rally scoring began. The Tigers also defeated George Washington by the score of 30-11 in the first game of a Pacific victory on Sept. 7, 2001.

Game two saw the squads come back to each other as Pacific hit .261 with 19 kills and seven errors on 46 attempts. Cal State Fullerton posted their best average of the night as the Titans outhit Pacific in game two, notching a .268 clip on 14 kills, three errors within 41 swings.

Despite being out hit in the second game, Pacific never trailed in the frame. The Tigers once again jumped out in front early with five of the first six points. This time it was a balanced attack as Anderson, junior Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) and sophomore Meagan MimMack (Upland, Calif.) each had early kills and junior Shannon Krug (Colorado Springs, Colo.) opened the game with an ace.

Although the Titans got back within a point moments later at 6-5, Pacific surged back in front with seven of the next 10 points. Uhl and freshman Svenja Engelhardt (Sinsheim, Germany) each nailed two kills to rally Pacific, while Krug added her second ace to push the Tiger lead back to 13-8. The Tigers' lead grew to as much as nine points at 26-17 as Pacific went on to claim the game, 30-25.

The third and final game of the night was by far the most competitive, featuring 12 ties and seven lead changes. Trailing 15-14 in the contest, Pacific used another run of points to take control. In this instance the Tigers scored eight of the next nine points to build a 22-16 edge. Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) and Uhl led the burst with two kills each. Cal State Fullerton never got closer than three points the rest of the way as Pacific won the match with a 30-25 victory in game three.

Uhl led all attackers with 18 kills, while MimMack finished with 12 kills and Engelhardt posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Pacific will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 19 as the Tigers head to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to take on the Cal Poly Mustangs at 7 p.m. in Mott Gym.
