Pacific Rolls Past Cal State Bakersfield, 3-0

Stockton, Calif. - In just 90 minutes, the Pacific women's volleyball team rolled past Cal State Bakersfield, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 19.

The win lifted Pacific to 12-5 on the season, while Cal State Bakersfield fell to 5-15.

Game scores for the match were: 30-16, 30-21, 30-22.

The Tigers dominated the opening game of the match as Pacific hit .483 on 15 kills and just one error over 29 attempts. Defensively the Tigers also controlled the Roadrunners as Cal State Bakersfield had six kills and five errors on 34 attempts for a .029 hitting percentage. The Tigers went on to take the game, 30-16.

Leading 5-4 in the second frame, Pacific distanced themselves from Cal State Bakersfield with a four point burst. Senior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) keyed the run with two of four kills in game two. Staked to a 9-4 lead, the Tigers steadily climbed past the Roadrunners, stretching their lead to as a much as ten points at 26-16. Pacific took game two, 30-21 on a attacking error by Cal State Bakersfield's Jodi Hardin.

The third and final contest was the closest of the night as Pacific held just an 18-16 lead midway through the period. Sophomore Meagan MimMack (Upland, Calif.) started a critical series of points for the Tigers with her ninth kill of the night to make it 19-16. That sent serving star freshman Svenja Engelhardt (Sinsheim, Germany) to the service line. Engelhardt did not disappoint as she cracked four aces over the ensuing five points to push Pacific's lead to 24-16. The Tigers went on to claim the game, 30-22, on MimMack's team-leading 11th kill of the night.

While MimMack's 11 kills led the Tigers, Hilbers finished with 10 kills. Junior setter Shannon Krug (Colorado Springs, Colo.) closed the night with her seventh double-double of the season, posting 39 assists and 12 digs.

Sarah Norman led Cal State Bakersfield with a match-high 15 kills.

Pacific will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20 as the Tigers begin the second round of Big West Conference play by hosting Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
