Box Score
Stockton, Calif. Behind two home runs from sophomore Justin Baum (La Mesa, Calif.) the Pacific Tigers baseball team defeated Sacramento State, 8-3, on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
With the win the Tigers moved to 6-1 on the season, while Sacramento State fell to 1-5 overall.
The Tigers got all the offense they would need in the bottom of the second as the Tigers scored five runs on four hits. Senior John DeVany (Danville, Calif.) was hit by a pitch with one out to start the Pacific rally. Junior Clint Eastman (Pleasonton, Calif.) and freshman Alex Zanini (Stockton, Calif.) followed with singles to load the bases for sophomore Adam Ching (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.). The Tigers' second baseman lined a single up the middle to drive home both Devany and Eastman, giving Pacific a 2-0 lead.
A balk by Hornets starter Justin Deme sent Zanini to third and Ching to second. One out later, Baum lauched his second home run of the season over the left field wall, making it a 5-0 game.
Pacific added runs in the third and fifth innings on an RBI squeeze bunt from Eastman and another RBI single by Ching. Then in the eighth, with the score 7-1, Baum lauched his second round tripper of the game and third of the year to make it 8-1.
Sacramento State scored two runs in the ninth inning on a two-run home run from pinch hitter Kyle Atrat, but junior Brad Schultz (West Hills, Calif.) came on to shut the door for the Tigers.
Sophomore Jason Haar (San Diego, Calif.) picked up the win (1-1) for Pacific as he allowed one unearned run on six hits and one walk in five innings.
Baum, Ching and Eastman led the way for Pacific with two hits each. Baum finished with four RBI in the game, while Ching had three.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 17 as the Tigers begin a three-game series with UCLA at 6 p.m. in Stockton Ballpark
